PILATES

WHAT IS CLINICAL
PILATES?

This form of treatment is a series of safe and efficient exercises aimed at meeting the client’s specific individual needs. One of the highly skilled and professional DMA Clinical Pilates trained physiotherapists at BodyMotion Physiotherapy will analyze your condition and determine what is known as a “Direction Preference”. This is where we decide which direction in which your body comfortably moves. By exercising in this particular direction, these exercises are highly efficient and uniquely treat the area that is causing your condition.

The physiotherapists at BodyMotion Physiotherapy utilise Clinical Pilates to treat a variety of injuries and conditions, including chronic pain and low back pain to hypermobility and dysautonomia as well as well as chronic fatigue syndrome. This form of exercise helps to enhance the client’s movement, balance, posture, stability and overall function.

Located in Mitcham, our programs extend to those across Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. Primarily, we have visitors initiating our programs from across Park Orchards, Ringwood, Vermont, Doncaster, Nunawading, Donvale and beyond. Our treatments don’t stop there, as we also offer remedial massage, sports massage and dry needling, just to name a few.

Our Clinical Pilates Program

We begin our Clinical Exercise program with an assessment. This 30 minute evaluation will allow our physiotherapist to determine which style of exercise will work best for your treatment. This evaluation includes defining which direction your body likes to move in, as well as your current level of stability, balance and muscle activity.

SUPERVISED SESSIONS

As soon as we have established the right exercises for your treatment, we can begin your supervised sessions. These 30 minutes are completely supervised by one of our highly trained physiotherapists, who will be assessing your technique and ensure that the exercises are being performed correctly. They will also be there to assist you with any enquiries you have during the exercises.

Benefits of clinical exercise

One of the most fantastic aspects of undertaking these exercises is the positive overall effect it has on your body. As it is an evidence-based treatment method and is used to treat spinal pain and lower back pain, but it carries a further range of benefits. Brilliant for pain management, this form of treatment also helps to improve balance and stability, as well as prevent further injuries and tone muscles.
Clinical Exercise has also been proven to enhance neural function, fight depression and promote a natural sense of wellbeing. It is also incredibly effective, and patients often find that they receive a full and comprehensive treatment in a shorter amount of time. This means the treatment is cheaper than other, less effective treatments. If you’re not sure if this is the right option for you, our dedicated therapists will assess your circumstances to assess whether this therapy option will benefit your situation.
